A video showing a woman named Saba Ahmed asking a question about the representation of Muslims and how one can fight ideologies with weapons is going viral on social media platforms as a recent incident.

What's the claim?: An X (formerly Twitter) premium handle shared the clip have insinuated that Ahmed asked the question after no Muslim leader was inducted in United States President-Elect Donald Trump's cabinet.

An archive of the post can be found here.

(More archives of similar claims can be found here, here, and here.)

What is the truth?: The video dates back to June 2014 and is unrelated to the recent elections in the United States. The panel was hosted by 'The Heritage Foundation', which discussed the attacks on a US consulate in Libya in 2012.

How did we find that out?: On looking closely at the image, we noticed "The Heritage Foundation" written in a large poster seen behind the panelists.

The poster carried the name of the foundation.

  • Taking this forward, we searched for 'The Heritage Foundation' and found a YouTube channel with the same name.

  • On going through the channel, we found a longer version of the panel seen in the viral clip.

  • It was published on 17 June 2014 and its title said, "Full Context: Benghazi Accountability Coalition Event."

  • The clip showed Ahmed asking the same question to the set of four panelists namely — Chris Plante, Clare Lopez, Brigitte Gabriel, and Frank Gaffney. Following this, multiple people answered the question.

News report: The Atlantic shared a report mentioning that the panel turned ugly after a Muslim law student questioned their portrayal of Islam as universally bad.

  • An article in The Progressive said that the Heritage Foundation held an panel to discuss the assault on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, in September 2012.

  • It should be noted that Barack Obama was serving as the US President in 2014.

Conclusion: It is clear that the video is old and unrelated to US President-Elect Donald Trump's victory in the elections.
