An aerial shot of an under-construction bridge amid hills is being shared on social media, claiming to show "New NH14 Construction" which will allegedly connect Srinagar, Jammu, and Ladakh across the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

An archive of this post can be seen here.

(Archived versions of other posts sharing this claim can be seen here and here.)

Is it true?: The claim is false. No part of NH14 is in Jammu.

  • The video shows the Ankang–Laifeng Expressway, which connects the two cities in Shaanxi and Heibei provinces of China respectively.

How did we find out the truth?: We divided the video into multiple keyframes using InVID, a video verification extension on Google Chrome, and ran a reverse image search on some of them.

  • This search led us to a Facebook post shared by 'Mike China Vlog', which shared the same video, mentioning that it shows the "G6911 Anlai Expressway" in China.

The video was shared as one of an expressway in China.

We also came across the same video on an Instagram account called 'Living China'.

  • Several social media users had shared the video as one of an expressway built on a cliff in China, which can be seen here, here, and here.

  • Taking a cue from this, we used the road's name as a search term on Google, which led us to a YouTube short shared by a channel called 'Son of China'.

  • It showed a finished and functional version of the Anlai Expressway, also known as the G6911 Ankang–Laifeng Expressway.

More on NH14: We looked up NH14 for more details about the national highway.

  • Our search led us to a document on the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' (MORTH) website, which carried a list of all national highways, their numbers, their routes, and the states that they pass through.

  • Here, we saw that NH14 passes through West Bengal, starting near Morgram and ending near Kharagpur.

NH14 runs through West Bengal.

Conclusion: A video of the Ankang-Laifeng Expressway in China is being falsely shared as a clip of a national highway in Jammu and Kashmir.
