A video showing a man arguing with a police officer, talking to her about how she was "threatening" him when she spoke about taking action against those responsible, is being shared on social media.
The claim: The video is being shared to claim that it shows an All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader behaving rudely and threatening a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) level police officer in West Bengal.
(Archived versions of more posts sharing this claim can be seen here, here, and here.)
But...?: The claim is misleading as the video doesn't show a TMC leader and is not from West Bengal.
The video is from Tripura and shows the Congress party's Unakoti district president Md Badruzzaman arguing with the district's Superintendent of Police (SP) Sudhambika R.
How did we find out the truth?: We ran a reverse image search on the clip using Google Lens, which led us to a YouTube video from a channel called 'Daily Post Tripura' titled 'Badruzzaman exchanges words with the Superintendent of Police'.
It also led us to a Times of India report dated 12 April 2025, which carried a flipped version of an image from the same video.
The report noted that an anti-Waqf protest had turned violent in Tripura's Unakoti, leaving two police personnel injured.
It called the man in the clip — Md Badruzzaman — the leader of the protest.
The report was about an anti-Waqf protest in Tripura's Unakoti district.

Taking this report's help, we looked for more information about Badruzzaman and the protest in Unakoti.
The search led us to an NDTV report about the protest, which it said was organised by the Kailashahar Joint Action Committee and began from Tillabazar.
It added that the protesters had not received permission for their rally, which was initially peaceful and later turned violent after a shoe was thrown at them. This incident escalated tensions, leaving several cops injured and led to the use of "mild lathi charge."
As per NDTV, Unakoti's Superintendent of Police Sudhambika R and Northern Range DIG Rati Ranjan Debnath visited the area after the violence was subdued to assess the situation.
Their report identified the police personnel in the viral video as SP Sudhambika R and Badruzzaman as a Congress leader.
The report noted that there was "some argument" between the SP and the Congress leader.

Badruzzaman was identified as Congress' district president for Unakoti in other reports by Times of India and news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) as well.
While searching on social media, we also came across some older posts by INC Tripura's official page, which identified him as Unakoti's district president for the party.
The 2022 post by INC Tripura identifies Badruzzaman as their district party president.

Conclusion: A video showing a Congress leader from Unakoti, Tripura, arguing with the district's SP has gone viral with the false claim that it shows a TMC leader threatening police personnel in West Bengal.
