Two clips — one of a man harassing and inappropriately touching a girl and second video showing police personnel beating a man with sticks — is going viral on the internet as a recent incident from Uttar Pradesh.

What did the viral post say?: An X (formerly Twitter) premium user shared the clip with a caption that said, "Abdul was molesting school girls every day. His activity captured in CCTV camera. Rest job done by UP police. Do you support this action of police?."

An archive of the post can be found here.

The post had garnered around a million views on the platform. Archives of similar claims can be found here, here, and here.

What are the facts?: The viral claim is misleading.

  • The first clip is from Maharashtra, where a man named Mohammad Aslam Mohammad Salim was recently arrested for molesting girls.

  • The second video is from Madhya Pradesh and shows a murder accused called Vikash Neeras being beaten by police.

Details about the first clip: We conducted a reverse image search using Google Lens and found the same visuals uploaded on a YouTube handle named 'MH PBN NEWS'. It was published on 9 December.

  • Taking this forward, we performed a keyword search on YouTube and found a video report published by ABP Majha.

  • It was posted on 9 December and it was titled, "Parbhani Crime: Serious incident in Parbhani captured on CCTV camera."

News report: A report published by Lokmat said that a man on a bike molested a girl who was walking from her college on 6 December.

  • The victim registered a case against the accused at Nanalpeth police station on Saturday.

  • The accused was named Mohammad Aslam Mohammad Salim, who was reportedly caught within a day of the incident.

The report was published on 9 December.

What about the second clip?: We isolated the keyframes from the second clip and performed a round of reverse image search on them.

  • This directed us to the same visuals posted on an Instagram handle named 'gardarwar.wale_mp.49'.

  • Its caption mentioned that the incident is from Shakti Chowk, Gadarwara in Madhya Pradesh.

News report: A Dainik Bhaskar report mentioned that a young man named Madhur Chaurasia was killed near the water tank in Gadarwara town due to personal enmity.

  • A different report identified the accused as Vikas Niras alias Kuchbandiya, who was arrested and interrogated by the police.

  • It is reported that Chaurasia had taken Rs 40,000 from the accused. The latter allegedly slit the victim's throat with a razor.

The report was published on 9 December.

Conclusion: It is clear that both the incidents are unrelated to each other and none of them are from Uttar Pradesh.
