An audio of former United States President Barack Obama praising India and describing how the "center of the global power is shifted" is going viral on social media platforms.
What have users said?: Those sharing the clip have captioned it saying, "Every Indian should listen this 10 mnts clip of Barack Obama on India's success story and feel proud for it. This is new India at world stage in the present multipoar world (sic)."
What is the truth?: The audio has been generated using the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and does not show a real one. We did not find any evidence of Obama making such a statement.
How did we find that out?: A keyword search on Google did not return any credible reports or information that talked about Obama making the same statements heard in the viral video.
The audio lacked the usual tone and pauses that the former President uses.
This pointed us towards the possibility of the audio being an AI-generated one.
What did detection tools show?: Team WebQoof passed the audio through two detection tools namely — 'Resemble AI' and 'DeepFake-O-Meter'.
The first tool showed that the audio was "fake".
Three detectors of the second tool conclusively showed that the audio was AI-generated and not real.
