An image of a female soldier is going viral on social media to claim that it shows she is an Israeli pilot who was recently captured by Iran.

What's the truth?: This image in unrelated to Iran or Israel.

  • It shows a pilot of the Chilean Navy, Daniela Figueroa Scholz.

How did we find out the truth?: We performed a reverse image search on the viral image which led us to the same image featured in an article published by Aeroflap, Alert 5 and Dialogo Americas in December 2021.

  • The headline read, “Chilean Navy trains the first woman aviator in its history.”

This report was published in 2021.

  • The report further identified the pilot as Lieutenant Daniela Figueroa Scholz who became the first ever woman to become a Naval Aviator in the Chile.

  • We also performed a keyword search but found no credible reports confirming that Iran has captured an Israeli pilot named Sarah Ahronot, as mentioned in the claim.
