A video is being shared on social media where users are claiming that it shows tribes of Tripura defending their land by using bow and arrow against "Bangladeshi intruders”.
How did we find out the truth?: We performed a reverse image search using some of the keyframes from the viral video through Google Lens.
This led us to the same clip uploaded on a Facebook page and a YouTube channel of Tribun Papua on 12 December 2024.
The description stated that the video shows a clash between supporters of two political parties in the Indonesian province of Central Papua.
Taking a cue, we performed a relevant keyword search that led us to this video shared on the Instagram account of an Indonesian news outlet, Kabar Terdepan, and on YouTube by VIVO.CO.ID.
This was shared on 13 December 2024 and the caption stated that this incident happened in the Sugapa district on 8 December 2024.
It further states, "The clashes were triggered by supporters of the Apolos Bagau candidate pair who suspected the Aner Maiseni candidate pair of stealing their votes."
Several Indonesian news reports including Ntv News, Detik and Cepos Online dated 9 December 2024, stated that these violent clashes resulted in injuring at least 11.
Conclusion: An old and unrelated video is being shared to falsely claim that it shows tribes from Tripura attacking Bangladesh infiltrators.
