An old video is going viral online to claim that it shows a Ukrainian strike on Russia.

A video is going viral on social media to claim that it shows a recent Ukrainian strike on Russia.

This comes after Ukrainian special forces carried out one of the largest drone-based special operations in modern warfare, destroying at least 40 Russian aircraft across multiple airbases using over 117 drones.

What's the truth?: This video dates back to 2023 and is being falsely shared as recent.

  • According to the reports, Ukraine destroyed one of Russia's biggest amphibious warships in a strike.

How did we find out the truth?: We performed a reverse image search on some of the keyframes of the viral video and this led us to a YouTube video shared by ABC News.

  • This was shared on 27 December 2023 which clarifies that the claim about this strike being a recent one is false.

  • The description of the video mentions that the video shows one Ukraine's attack on Russia's biggest amphibious warships.

  • The strike happened in a Crimean port followed by a massive explosion.
