Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently held a press conference, where he showed a presentation, levelling several allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI).
What did Gandhi allege?: The video was shared on Gandhi's official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
At around the 41:48 timestamp, he was heard talking about a voter named 'Aditya Srivastava' being registered in multiple states, such as Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
The Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number was shown as FPP6437040.
The above post had gained over eight million views on the platform.
What we found?: On going through the latest electoral roll available for the above mentioned states, we found that Srivastava's name was indeed found present as late as January 2025 (except Maharashtra).
However, we found that his EPIC number is presently registered in Karnataka's Mahadevapura only after we conducted a search on the official ECI's website.
About the electoral roll in UP: We went through the official ECI website to check the electoral rolls of different states.
Here, we used the details shared by Gandhi in the viral clip to find out if Srivastava was actually registered in the state.
We found Srivastava's name in the Lucknow East constituency of Uttar Pradesh with the EPIC number FPP6437040. As per the document, he was 39 years of age. His father was named SP Srivastava.
The voter details were published on 7 January 2025.

Was his name also registered in Maharashtra?: On cross-checking the details shared in the viral video, we found that a voter named Aditya Srivastava with an EPIC number FPP6437040.
The voter was registered in the Jogeshwari East constituency of Maharashtra and was said to be 37 years of age.
However, instead of father's name, a relative's name was given here [Ritika Srivastava].
The list was published on 30 August 2024.

What about Karnataka?: Team WebQoof found Srivastava's name twice in the Mahadevapura constituency of the state.
His name was registered at poll station numbers 458 and 459 respectively, which can be seen in the screenshots attached below.
Srivastava's relative name was given as Ritika Srivastava and he was 38 -year-old as per the document, which was published on 6 January 2025.
The EPIC number in both cases was the same, i.e., FPP6437040.

What did the UP CEO say?: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh, on its X, denied the allegation made by the Congress leader. The statement further said that as per a search on 7 August 2025, Srivastava's name was only registered in the Mahadevapura constituency in Karnataka.
Team WebQoof found that as of 11 August, Srivastava's name is being shown only once in the Mahadevapura constituency, where his polling station number is 458.
Aditya's name is only listed at one polling station now.

What did Srivastava say?: As per a report by India TV, he told the media outlet that he belonged to Lucknow but he shifted his voter ID to Maharashtra after he moved to Mumbai in 2009.
This was again shifted to Karnataka, when Srivastava relocated to Bengaluru in 2021.
The report was published on 8 August.

The problem: There is a slight problem with the UP CEO's reply to Gandhi. While it acknowledges that the details used in the press conference dated back to March 2025, the CEO doesn't mention as to why Srivastava's name was still present in the electoral roll as late as January 2025.
If Srivastava's claim of transferring his voter ID in 2009 is true, then it raises a question why his name remained in the electoral roll of Uttar Pradesh.
Conclusion: It is evident that Srivastava's name was present in three different state's electoral rolls, however, his EPIC number is now active in Mahadevapura constituency only.
