A post on social media containing an external link has gone viral, which claims that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is providing ₹5,000 cash rewards to citizens for the festival of Rakshabandhan (9 August) and Independence Day (15 August).
The post read, "On behalf of the BJP, to the people of the entire India, click here to transfer money to your bank account."
What we found: At first, we clicked on the link provided in the post. It led us to another page which noted that the ₹5,000 cash reward came under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).
We went through the supposed page and found a scratch card which would reveal the reward. Upon scratching it, Team WebQoof got rewards worth ₹669.

No official reports: We did not find any official announcements or news reports regarding such a move by the government.
Additionally, the viral post claimed that these rewards were given under the PMJDY. However, government websites in India end with 'gov.in' in their URLs, which was not in the viral link.
The URL which leads to official website of PMJDY is: https://www.pmjdy.gov.in/
This is the official government website of the PMJDY.

Moreover, Team WebQoof has previously debunked a similar claim which noted that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was giving a reward of ₹5000 to the citizens in order to celebrate its win. You can read the story here.
Conclusion: A social media post containing a fraudulent link has gone viral to falsely claim that the central government was giving cash rewards on the occasion of Rakshabandhan and Independence Day.
