Old Clip of Owaisi 'Laughing' With BJP Leaders Linked to Passing of Waqf Bill

This video is old and is falsely being linked to the recent passing of the Waqf Amendment Bill.

Fact-Check: This video is from January and is not recent as claimed.

A video showing the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Member of Lok Sabha Asaduddin Owaisi laughing and talking with several members of the parliament.

In the clip, a few parliamentarians could be identified such as Nishikant Dubey, Aparajita Sarangi, Jagadamibika Pal and others of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mohibbullah Nadvi (Samajwadi Party), Syed Nasir Hussain from Congress and Naresh Ganpat Mhaske of Shiv Sena, and some others were seen in the clip.

The claim: Those sharing have claimed that the video was recent and that Owaisi was laughing with others after the passing of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, in Parliament. Users have accused him of being the ruling BJP's B-Team.

English news outlet Republic TV also shared this claim on their official X page. Although it did not explicitly mention that Owaisi was with BJP members.

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false.

• This video is old, dating back to 29 January, after the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) that reviewed the Waqf Amendment Bill wrapped up.

What we found: We divided the video into multiple screenshots and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them.

• We came across a video posted by the news agency ANI on 29 January. As per the caption, the video showed the JPC members on the Waqf Amendment Bill engaging with Jagadambika Pal, the committee chairperson.

• Similarly, the news agency the Press Trust of India (PTI) also uploaded the same video on 29 January with the caption that it showed members of the JPC of the amendment bill.

• We also found a report from January by The Print which showed an image of several JPC members including Owaisi at a round table. The news outlet credited the image to PTI.

• It noted that the JPC reviewing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill had approved its report along with the revised version of the proposed legislation through a majority vote.

Conclusion: The viral claim is false and does not show Owaisi laughing with BJP members after the passing of the Waqf bill in the parliament, recently.
