A video showing an injured pilot is going viral on social media to claim that this is a recent video linked to Operation Sindoor.

What's the truth?: This video is from 2019 when two IAF's Surya Kiran Aerobatic team planes collided mid air and crashed in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

How did we find out the truth?: We performed a relevant keyword search on Google which did not bring up any credible reports carrying this visual.

  • Next we performed a reverse image search using some of the keyframes of viral video which led us to old videos shared in February 2019.

  • This was shared by TV9 Kannada and KARAVALI TV and it states that the video shows locals rescuing a pilot after two Surya Kiran Jets of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Bengaluru.

  • Taking a cue, we performed a relevant keyword search on Google which led us to more reports about this incident.

  • Deccan Herald, The News Minute and The Print stated that two Hawk aircraft of the Surya Kiran Aerobatics Team crashed during a rehearsal near the Yelahanka Air Force base ahead of the Aero India show in Bengaluru in 2019.

  • The IAF confirmed that two of the three pilots on board the aircraft had ejected, but the third sustained fatal injuries.
