A message is going viral on social media to claim that former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has announced his retirement from Indian Premier League (IPL).

Currently, he is a part of the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

What's the truth?: Dhoni has not shared any official confirmation about his retirement as of 7 April 2025.

How did we find out the truth?: We checked Dhoni's official social media accounts and found no such announcement.

  • Next, we also checked the CSK team's official accounts and did not find any such announcement there either.

  • Further, we conducted a relevant keyword search on Google, but no credible report came up.

  • However, we found several reports about Dhoni addressing the topic on retirement.

  • In a report shared by The Indian Express on 7 April, it was noted that Dhoni answered a question about his retirement Raj Shamani’s podcast.

  • He said, “I am still playing the IPL and one year at a time. I am 43, by the end of this IPL season, I will be 44 in July. So I have 10 months to decide whether I want to play one more year and it’s not me deciding; it’s my body, whether you can play or not.”

  • This comes after CSK's defeat against Delhi Capitals recently in IPL.
