A photo of cricketer Mohammed Siraj carrying the national flag, while people can be seen surrounding his vehicle, is being shared to claim that it shows him receiving a grand welcome after India vs England test series.
What have users said?: Those sharing the image have uploaded it with a caption that said, "Mohammed Siraj returns to a hero's welcome in Hyderabad. #INDvsENG #Muhammadsiraj #PAKvsWI."
What is the truth?: The image dates back to July 2024, when Siraj had received a grand welcome in Hyderabad after India's victory at the 2024 T20 World Cup. This makes the claim misleading.
How did we find that out?: Using the help of Google Lens, we conducted a reverse image search and found a similar visual posted on the official Instagram handle of Dainik Bhaskar.
The post was shared on 6 July 2024.
Its caption in Hindi when translated to English said, "Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj reached his hometown Hyderabad for the first time after winning the World Cup. Here a large number of fans welcomed him. See photos..."
News reports: We found a report published in Economic Times published on 6 July 2024, which carried the same visual.
The report said that a large number of fans turned up at the airport in Hyderabad to shower the cricketer with love and support after India's victory at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.
NDTV had shared a video report on their official YouTube channel that showed visuals of the grand welcome that Siraj had received after arriving in Hyderabad in 2024.
Conclusion: It is evident that the image is old and is unrelated to the recently concluded India vs England test series.
