A set of eight images, which show visuals of a crashed airplane and injured people, is going viral on social media platforms with a claim that they are from a recent military helicopter crash in Mexico.

What does the viral post say?: A Facebook user named 'Wellora Health' shared the photos with a caption that said, "Military helicopter crashes in Mexico, leaving 14 dead..."

An archive of the post can be found here.

What is the truth?: We did not find any news reports to support the claim of a military helicopter crashing in Mexico.

  • While a majority of these photos show the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, we could trace one of the images back to 2024.

  • We did not find the source of the picture that showed a child lying on what appeared to be a hospital bed.

We isolated the first image from the collage and conducted a Google Lens search, which directed us to a news report published in NDTV.

  • The report said that the BJ Medical College (BJMC) announced cancellation of all ongoing and upcoming internal examinations for MBBS students.

  • The move was made after the tragic Air India Flight AI-171 crash, which also struck a hostel housing medical students.

The report was published on 14 June 2025.

On clearly observing the third and sixth pictures of the collage, we found that both of them were indeed the same.

  • Next, we conducted a reverse image search using the help of Google Lens and found the same visual published in The Telegraph.

  • The report said that investigators have submitted the preliminary report on the Air India aircraft to the civil aviation ministry.

The report was published on 8 July.

  • We did not find the source or details of the fourth image.

A report published by Lokmat Times had carried the same visual, which we found after conducting a Google Lens search.

  • It said that the sole surviving passenger of the aircraft, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, has been discharged from Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.

The report was published on 18 June.

Using the help of a reverse image search, our team found an uncropped version of the viral photo shared in a news report shared by NewsX.

  • The report, too, talked about the Air India aircraft crash and the findings that the investigation into it revealed.

The report was published on 12 July.

Team WebQoof further repeated the process for the eighth photo and found a similar visual posted on an X (formerly Twitter) handle named '@MuhammadMa8309'.

  • It was posted on 11 June 2024.

  • While we could not establish more details about the photo, it is clear that the photo was old.

Conclusion: Evidently, the images are old and are being shared with a false claim that they show a military helicopter crash in Mexico.
