A post is doing the rounds on social media platforms claiming that it carried the list of names of all the victims, who were killed in the recent terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir's Pahalgam.

What else did the post say?: It mentioned that media outlet India TV had purportedly shared the list, which showed that most of the victims were Muslims.

An archive of the post can be found here.

The same list is being circulated on other social media platforms, such as X (formerly Twitter). Archives of similar claims can be found here, here, and here.

What is the truth?: This claim is false as the list was not shared by India TV as claimed by social media users.

  • Team WebQoof found multiple news reports that carried the original list, which did not carry the names seen in the viral post.

Did India TV share such a list?: On conducting a keyword search, we found a news report published by India TV that carried the names of 26 victims killed in the Pahalgam terror attack.

  • The report said that the victims belonged to different states, such as Bihar, West Bengal, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra.

  • It further said that a tourist from Nepal and a local from Pahalgam were also killed in the attack.

The report was published on 23 April.

Other news reports: Team WebQoof found an India Today report that talked about authorities releasing the names of 26 victims killed in the terror attack in Pahalgam.

  • The report further said that as per eyewitnesses, the terrorists "checked IDs and executed those identified as non-Muslims, point-blank".

  • These findings make it evident that the claim of most of the victims belonging to the Muslim community is false.

The report was published on 24 April.

Conclusion: Evidently, the list was not published by India TV as claimed in the viral social media post.
