A post is doing the rounds on social media platforms claiming that India Post has recently decided to discontinue the usage of red letterbox from 1 September.

What have users said?: Those sharing the video have captioned it saying, "Goodbye, Red Letter Box: India Post Has Decided To End Usage of Post Box from 1st Sept. 2025."

Is this claim true?: No. India Post, on its official X handle, recently confirmed that the red letterboxes would not be discontinued.

How did we find that out?: On conducting a keyword search on Google, we came across a news report published in The Hindu.

• It said that Chief Post Master General of Telangana Circle, PVS Reddy, has said that the red letterboxes are not being phased out and were being reimagined and digitally monitored.

• He pointed out that Telangana continues to maintain over nine thousand letterboxes.

The report was published on 21 August.

What did India Post say?: The official X handle of India Post Office clarified that the red letterboxes are not going anywhere.

• The post shared on 7 August said, "India Post is evolving with the times, but some things will remain the same- always. We have carried love, news, and stories for generations... And guess what? Our red letterboxes are here to stay..."
