Social media users have circulated a video that allegedly shows Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar being requested to leave during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected president of the United States of America, Donald Trump.

Is the claim true?: The claim is false.

  • We reviewed the longer version of the oath-taking and found that Jaishankar was not asked to leave or even disturbed amid the ceremony.

What we found: At first, we looked for the longer version of the oath-taking ceremony and found it on the White House's YouTube channel.

  • Following this, we identified the portion of the viral video in the version on YouTube.

  • We spotted a cameraperson appear in front of the minister at 34:37 minutes of the YouTube video.

Here are the markings where we spotted the two.

  • At 34:44 minutes, we saw a person approach the area where Jaishankar was seated. The person was seen tapping her hand and gesturing someone to leave.

  • They were also seen talking to someone. They had no interaction with the minister at any point.

  • At 35:10 minutes, we can see a person, behind the minister, leaving the area. The person was wearing some sort of a strap around their neck.

  • In a livestream by German broadcaster DW News, we could spot a photographer in front of the row where Jaishankar was seated.

Conclusion: A false claim has gone to viral that Jaishankar was asked to leave during the oath-taking ceremony of Trump.
