An image of Olympic fencer Nada Hafez is going viral on social media to claim that she won a gold medal while being seven months pregnant at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Some claims also mention her as 'daughter' insinuating that she is Indian.

What's the truth?: This claim is misleading. Hafez is from Egypt and not India.

  • Although it’s true that Hafiz competed in the 2024 Olympics while being seven months pregnant, she did not win any medals during the event.

How did we find out the truth?: We performed a relevant keyword search on Google and did not find any reports supporting the claim about Hafez being Indian or winning any medals.

  • Although we found reports about her competing in the Olympics while being pregnant. These can be read here, here and here.

  • We then checked Hafez's social media accounts and found posts about her participating in the Paris Olympics 2024.

  • In a post shared on 29 July 2024, Hafez noted that she was seven months pregnant while participating in the Olympics.

  • Subsequently, on 14 October 2024, she also shared about the birth of her daughter.

Did she win a medal?: No, we did not find any proof about her winning any medals at the Paris Olympics.

  • We checked the official website of Olympics where we found a report from 31 July 2024 about Hafez beating USA’s Elizabeth Tartakovsky in the first round of the women’s individual sabre competition but later being knocked out by Jeon Hayoung of the Republic of Korea.

Hafez is an Egyptian fencer.

  • We then checked the result board on the Olympics' website for fencing under women's individual sabre competition and found Hafez's name on the 16th rank.

  • The gold, silver and bronze medals were secured by Manon Brunet, Sara Balzer from France and Olga Kharlan from Ukraine, respectively.

Hafez secured the 16th rank.
