A video of a battery-run rickshaw being destroyed while people could be seen crying and screaming is going viral on social media platforms as a recent incident from Uttar Pradesh.
What did the viral post say?: An X (formerly Twitter) premium user shared the clip with a caption saying, "I cry when I see it! Is it a sign of poverty? In Uttar Pradesh, officials are smashing the battery car saying that it is not allowed to ply on the main road! What did you do with the BMW and AUDI CAR that caused the accident after driving drunk, Mr Modi?."
What are the facts?: The claim is false. The incident shows battery-run rickshaws being recently seized and destroyed by Dhaka North City Corporation in Bangladesh.
How did we find that out?: A simple reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral video directed us to the same visuals uploaded on a YouTube channel named 'Kanis Fatema'.
It was uploaded on 14 May with a title that loosely translated to, "A father's dream, a family's hope, a life's hope. Broken today."
The video carried the logo of Dhaka Tribune.
News reports: On going through Dhaka Tribune's official YouTube channel, we found the same visuals uploaded on 13 May. Its title that said, "Autorickshaw crushed in front of driver's eyes | Dhaka Tribune."
A report published by The Business Standard said that the Dhaka North City Corporation had conducted operation in the capital to remove illegal battery-run rickshaws from main roads.
Following reports highlighting the distress of affected drivers, the corporation administrator Mohammad Azaz had handed over financial assistance to three rickshaw pullers.
The image in the report showed the same rickshaw puller, who was seen crying in the viral video.
The report was published on 14 May.
