A video showing a disabled girl applying tilak on Maharshtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' forehead is going viral to claim that this happened recently after he was elected as the CM of the state.

Fadnavis took an oath as Maharashtra's CM for the third time on 5 December.

What's the truth?: This video dates back to June 2023 and has nothing to do with Fadnavis' oath taking ceremony.

How did we find out the truth?: We performed a reverse image search on some of the keyframes of the viral video and this led us to an old X (formerly Twitter) post shared by Free Press Journal.

  • This was shared on 28 June 2023, and the caption read, "#Maharashtra: A disabled person puts a tilak on Deputy CM @Dev_Fadnavis' forehead with her toe."

  • Taking a cue, we performed an advanced search on X and found the post from 27 June 2023 where Fadnavis shared the same video on his official X page.

  • In the caption, he mentions a disabled woman's unwavering spirit and determination.

We also found a report shared by Dainik Bhaskar last year where it specifies that this incident happened in Jalgaon, Maharashtra.
