A video of a crowd carrying sticks and what appear to be weapons is being shared on the internet with a claim that it shows "illegal Bangladeshis" preparing to launch an attack against Goalpara Police in Assam.

Who shared it?: '@KreatelyMedia', an account which has been previously called out for spreading disinformation, shared the post on X (formerly Twitter) with a caption saying, "Illegal Bangladeshis have armed themselves with homemade spears to launch a violent attack on officials and police in Goalpara, Assam."

An archive of the post can be found here.

The above post had garnered around 36 thousand views on the platform. Archives of similar claims can be found here, here, and here.

What is the truth?: The video dates back to July of this year, when two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) clashed with each other in Bangladesh's Kishoreganj. This clearly makes the viral claim false.

How did we find that out?: We conducted a Google Lens search on the keyframes of the viral clip and came across a news report published by Dhaka Mail.

  • The report said that a clash broke out between two factions of BNP in Kishoreganj, which resulted in at least 40 people getting injured.

  • It mentioned that the clash occurred due to political and family dispute between Kishoreganj District Volunteer Party Joint Convener Farhad Ahmed and Union BNP President Kamal Pasha.

  • The report further said that arson and looting had also taken place during the clash.

The report was published on 1 July 2025.

Other sources: Bangladeshi daily Ajker Patrika, in its report, added that people from Pasha's faction had ambushed Ahmed's house.

  • Officer-in-Charge of the Ashtagram Police Station Md Ruhul Amin said that the situation has been brought under control and legal action will be taken after a complaint is received.

  • We found visuals from the clash uploaded on the official YouTube channel of 'ChanneliNews'.

  • It was posted on 1 July and its title when translated to English said, "At least 40 injured in bloody clash between two BNP factions in Ashtagram, looting and arson."

What did Goalpara Police say?: The official X handle of Goalpara Police clarified that the video was being shared to falsely claim that it showed a recent incident from Assam.

  • The post shared on 6 August further said, "We request everyone not to get carried away and spread such rumour to ensure peace and order. We have initiated an enquiry to identify the miscreants for taking necessary legal action."

Conclusion: It is evident that the video is from Bangladesh is being incorrectly linked to Assam.
