Aishwarya Rai Death Hoax: Visuals Don't Show Bachchans Attending Her ‘Funeral’

We found no credible reports or statements which support the viral claim.

A video showing actors Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan attending a funeral are being shared on social media.

The claim: The video carries text and photographs of actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and claims that she passed away in a car accident.

• The posts claim to show the Bachchans attending her funeral.

Is it true?: No, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has not passed away.

• The visuals show two discrete incidents of Amitabh and Abhishek Bacchan attending the funerals of actor Vinod Khanna and the late Raj Kapoor's wife, Krishna Raj Kapoor.

How did we find out the truth?: To start with, we ran a keyword search using Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's name to look for any recent news reports carrying information about her being in an accident or her death.

None of the most recent reports carried any such information, showing that this claim was yet another celebrity death hoax.

What about the video?: We then ran reverse images on screenshots taken at different points in the video on Google, which led us to a 2018 report by Rediff.com, which carried visuals similar to one part of the video.

• It said that it showed Bollywood personalities attending the funeral of Krishna Raj Kapoor, wife of the veteran Bollywood actor Raj Kapoor.

• The report carried similar visuals of Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan as seen in the claim.

The Bachchans were wearing the same clothes in the visuals shared by Rediff.

• We also carried out a similar search for the other part of the clip, which showed Amitabh Bachchan in a plain, beige-coloured jacket.

• This search led us to a 2017 report by English language daily Mid Day, which carried similar visuals of the actor.

• The report's headline said that it shows Bachchan attending veteran actor Vinod Khanna's funeral.

Bachchan can be seen in the same outfit and accompanied by the same person in both visuals.

Conclusion: Old, unrelated visuals are being shared with the false claim that they show the Bachchan family at Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's funeral after she passed away in a car accident.
