Briefing the media after the second meeting of the newly-formed Congress Working Committee, party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala alleged on Saturday, 4 August that the BJP-led NDA government was instrumental in aiding Mehul Choksi’s escape.

Randeep Surjewala's attack on the BJP-led government comes a day after party president Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to take a dig at the Modi government over Mehul Choksi's escape from India.

The Congress president on Friday had alleged that the BJP government had facilitated fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi’s departure from India.

Taking a swipe at PM Modi, Rahul wrote on Twitter: "India gave Mehul “Bhai” Choksi, Mr 56’s “suit-boot” BFF, a clean chit in Nov 2017, enabling him to obtain Antiguan citizenship." He added that this “‘Bhai’ looted PNB of 13,000 cr, before scooting from India.”
