SC Dismisses Plea Against Bail to Ryan International’s Trustees
Pradyumn’s father had earlier challenged the HC order granting anticipatory bail to the Ryan Int’l Group trustees.
The Supreme Court on Monday, 11 December, dismissed a plea challenging the anticipatory bail granted to three trustees of the Ryan International Group, in connection with the killing of a seven-year-old student on the school premises.
A bench of Justices RK Agrawal and AM Sapre said the "petition is dismissed."
The court had earlier reserved the order on the plea of the father of class II student, Pradyumn Thakur, who was found dead in Ryan International School in Gurugram, challenging the anticipatory bail granted to the trustees of the group.
Pradyumn’s father, Barun had challenged the Punjab and Haryana High Court's 21 November order granting anticipatory bail to the Ryan International Group trustees – CEO Ryan Pinto and his parents, founding chairman Augustine Pinto, and managing director Grace Pinto.
Pradyumn was found with his throat slit in the school washroom in Gurugram on 8 September. School bus conductor Ashok Kumar was earlier arrested by Haryana Police in connection with the crime. He was recently granted bail by a lower court.
The case was transferred to the CBI and the agency had apprehended a Class 11 student in connection with the killing.
According to the CBI, the 16-year-old’s motive for the murder has been identified as a need to postpone his exams and an impending parent-teacher meeting as he was academically weak.
Pradyumn’s murder has sent shock waves across the country, raising pertinent questions about the safety of students in schools.
