1. From Rio to Paris: The Climate Change Agreements that Mattered

It’s worthwhile remembering that the 2015 Paris talks are the 21st meeting of the parties to the 1994 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This mega summit 23 years ago laid down the architecture of several environmental agreements and declarations hugely relevant even today.

2. 30 Years of Research, Yet There Is No HIV Vaccine

There is no bigger biomedical research problem today than finding an AIDS vaccine.

Every day, 15,000 people get infected by HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. All of them will eventually die. After three decades of intense research, nearly 39 million deaths around the world, there is still no hope of a vaccine.

3. Anil Kumble Exits IPL to ‘Pursue Other Interests Around Cricket’

Chief mentor of the Mumbai Indians since January 2013, Anil Kumble has announced his decision to step down from the post with immediate effect. In his official statement, the legendary spin bowler has said he made the decision so he could pursue other opportunities in sports and cricket.

4. Apple Music Now Seeks Help From Dilwale SRK

Apple is trying to hard sell their subscription-based music service, Apple Music in India. The company is taking the help of King Khan and has even gone ahead and made a playlist on Apple Music of his top songs and albums.

5. Putin to Poutine: From Russian President to Canadian Dish

Those closely following the UN climate conference in Paris, France, got a few laughs from a strange little goof-up made by the official English COP21 Twitter account. While the President of Russia’s name happens to be Vladimir Putin, Poutine is a whole different kettle of fish – or bowl of french fries to be precise.

6. After Winning Electoral Contest, Lalu Set to Battle Legal Woes

In less than a month after he rose like a phoenix in the Bihar assembly elections, Lalu Prasad will now be busy fighting his legal battle. All eyes will be riveted on the Supreme Court which, on December 1, is likely to hear a CBI plea challenging a Ranchi High Court order giving partial relief to Lalu in a fodder scam case (No. 64(A)/96).

7. Bullied for Not Standing for Anthem: Is This Our Idea of India?

A video has surfaced which purportedly shows a family being asked to leave a theatre for not standing up during the national anthem. The Quint cannot independently verify what really happened but a crowd of people inside the theatre is seen shouting at some people. The audio of those at the receiving end of this violence is unclear.

8. Nagaland Reservoir and People Come to the Rescue of Amur Falcons

It took off from the dense tree cover like the raptor it is, craned its neck taking all in with a piercing gaze while the invisible direction finder in its tiny head gave it the desired bearing. And then with a lazy flap or two of its sleek wings, off it vanished into the blue yonder.

9. Queering the Pitch: Is India Getting its 22-Yard Tracks Right?

The debate over the standard of the pitches in the ongoing India-South Africa series, where two Tests finished in less than three days (one was washed out in Bangalore), has reached a crescendo.
