Indrani Mukerjea, prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, has moved a special CBI court here for bail, citing ill-health and alleged threat to her life as the reasons, PTI reported.

The bail application was filed last week.

Flood Alert Issued for Cauvery River in six Tamil Nadu Districts

A flood alert was issued along the banks of Cauvery in six Tamil Nadu districts on Friday with Karnataka releasing more than one lakh cusecs of water into the inter-state river in the wake of heavy rains there.

The alert was issued a day after the Central Water Commission (CWC) gave the first advisory warning, saying combined discharge of water (more than one lakh cusecs) from Kabani and KRS dams in Karnataka was expected to reach Mettur Dam in Salem district of Tamil Nadu by 11 August.

Girl Dies After Being Given Iron-Boosting Pills in BMC School

A girl student of a civic body-run school here died today while over 160 other students were hospitalised due to suspected poisoning after they took iron-boosting medicines given by the school.

The 12-year-old girl was administered iron and folic acid tablets on Monday at the Municipal Urdu School Number at Bainganwadi in suburban Govandi, a statement from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)said.

The statement also said the students of BMC-run schools were given iron, folic acid and deworming tablets as part of a Central government scheme aimed at fighting anaemia among children.

SC Stays J&K High Court Order Allowing Cinema-goers to Carry Outside Food

The Supreme Court has stayed the order of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, allowing cinema-goers to carry their food items inside the cinema halls in the state, reported ANI.

The Multiplex Association of India had filed a petition in the apex court, challenging the J&K High Court order.

More Than 50 Tourists Stranded in Idukki District Due to Heavy Rains

More than 50 tourists, including 24 from abroad, have been stranded in Idukki district of Kerala for the past two days as the road leading to their resort in Munnar was damaged in a landslide triggered by heavy rains.

The foreign tourists are from countries, including Russia, Saudi Arabia and Oman, officials said.

Kerala Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran said all the tourists of Plum Judy resort at Pallivasal in Munnar were safe and the state government has asked the Army to help clear the road.

Cannot Release Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case Convicts: Centre to SC

The Centre told the Supreme Court on Friday, 10 August that it does not concur with the Tamil Nadu government's proposal to release seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, saying remission of their sentence will set a "dangerous precedent" and have "international ramifications".

On 23 January, the apex court had asked the Centre to take a decision within three months on a 2016 letter by the Tamil Nadu government seeking its concurrence on releasing the seven convicts.

DCW Issues Notice Over Alleged Rape of Minor Girl In Delhi School

The DCP of Delhi Police said that the minor girl who was allegedly raped inside the premises of the government school in Delhi's Gole Market has identified the accused and he has been arrested, reported ANI.

He further added that the accused was working in the school for almost two months. He is currently being interrogated and the investigation is underway.

He also said that the place where the incident took place didn’t have a CCTV camera.

Earlier, the Delhi Commission for Women had issued a notice to the police and the government school over the alleged rape of the minor girl, reported ANI.

Huge Quantity of Explosives Found in Maharashtra's Palghar

A huge quantity of explosives, suspected to be RDX, was found at Nallasopara in Palghar district on the intervening night of 9-10 August.

After getting information about the explosives, officials of the Maharashtra ATS and senior officials of Palghar Police rushed to the spot and an investigation was on, an official said.

"Triple Talaq Bill will not be taken up today because no consensus could be built around it", Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu told ANI.

The bill was scheduled to be tabled in Rajya Sabha in the monsoon session of the parliament.
