The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a 12-hour, statewide bandh in West Bengal on Wednesday, 26 September in protest of the death of two students in Islampur on 20 September.
The two students were killed when protesters clashed with the police over recruitment of a Urdu teacher at Daribhita High School in North Dinajpur district. Students had demanded that teachers be recruited for science and other subjects, PTI reported.
Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and union territory of Chandigarh have agreed to move towards uniform fuel rates, ANI reported. The decision was reached at a meeting of Finance Ministers and officers of Northern States held in Chandigarh on Tuesday. Participating states have decided to constitute sub-committee for the same, the news agency added.

A new born baby was rescued from Hosur district’s Achettipalli village in Tamil Nadu. He was thrown into the bushes and was rescued by passersby who heard him crying, ANI reported. The infant has been admitted to hospital and a probe is underway

Supreme Court's five-judge bench on Wednesday refused to refer the Nagaraj judgment to a larger bench. It turned down the request by the Union government to make reservations in promotion for SC/ST employees in proportion to the population.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will travel to Pyongyang in October to prepare a second summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the Department of State said in a communique on Wednesday.
Pompeo met on Wednesday at the United National General Assembly with his North Korean counterpart, Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho, to discuss the upcoming summit, Efe reported.

Following a clash between students and resident doctors at Sir Sunderlal Hospital, five hostels of Banaras Hindu University were vacated on Wednesday, 26 September and the security in and around the campus was heightened with the police maintaining security using drone cameras, said officials.
The five hostels whose boarders were ordered to move out were Birla, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Dhanwantri, Ruiya Medical and Ruiya Annexe.
