1. Poll Code Kills Hope of 6,000 Staff for Extension

Due to the election code of conduct in force till all seven phases of the parliamentary elections are completed, as many as 6,000 state government employees are losing out on three years extension of their service.

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) in its election manifesto for the 2018 Assembly elections had promised to increase the retirement age for government employees from the existing 58 years to 61 years.

2. JEE Percentile Scores Confuse Many

The new method of ‘normalisation based on percentile scores’ in the Joint Entrance Exam-Mains (Paper I) has left many students and parents confused. Percentile scores are based on the relative performance of all students who take the exam.

Many students calculated their raw score with the regular procedure and were in rude shock with their ranks after normalisation. As a result, the top 30,000 were distributed in the 100, 99 and 98 percentile scores. The National Testing Agency, which conducted the JEE-M took the score till the around 7 decimal point to avoid a tie.

3. K Chandrasekhar Rao Orders Helipads at Dam Site

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday instructed officials to set up police camps, construct watch towers and helipads at the barrages under the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project.

While reviewing the progress of construction work of the project with senior officers of the departments concerned, the Chief Minister told them to take steps to also construct staff housing quarters at the maximum height over the high flood level to shield them in the event of a flood.

4. Hyderabad: Showpiece by Month End

The Musi River Development Corporation (MRDC) officials assured that they would clean up the five-km stretch of the Musi river from Chaderghat to Puranapul before the end of May.

They said that the corporation would remove debris, clear the sludge, and remove weeds especially along the stretch near the High Court which, at this point, is highly contaminated.

5. Ramzan Gift Packs to 832 Mosques in Telangana

The state government has decided to distribute gift packs to Muslims through the 832 mosques spread across Telangana in view of the upcoming holy month of Ramzan. The Telangana Government also decided to provide Rs 1 lakh to each mosque to host Iftars.

Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar reviewed the arrangements being made for the smooth conduct of the holy month of Ramzan with senior officials on Monday. He directed the respective district Collectors to supervise the arrangements that are being made from time to time. The departments concerned should initiate steps to ensure sanitation, proper road connectivity and power supply to the mosques during the festival period.
