Police booked at least 30 students from the Perambra Silver College in Kozhikode district in Kerala for waving a large green flag, mistaking it to be Pakistan’s, on Thursday, 29 August.
Earlier in the day, news agency ANI had reported that students belonging to Muslim Students Front (MSF) were booked for allegedly waving a ‘Pakistan flag’ during a procession for students’ union elections.
While the students waved a large white and green flag with a crescent, it was not the Pakistani flag, an AltNews report pointed out.
While a Pakistani flag has white on the left, the MSW flag has the colour in the bottom. Moreover, the crescent moon is in the middle on Pakistan’s, it is on the top left corner in the other.
The students have been booked under Section 143 (Whoever is a member of an unlawful assembly, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months or fine), 147 (Punishment for rioting), 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly can be guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC.
