A 22-year old Finnish woman was found dead in Hotel Himalaya in Chennai’s Triplicane area at 7.20 am on 10 January, a day after she arrived in the city along with her companion, Aleksi Joel Santeri, reports The News Minute.

Santeri allegedly found her lying unconscious in the morning and informed the hotel. An ambulance was called and she was taken to the hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

The two Finnish nationals reportedly arrived in Chennai early on 9 January. According to The Hindu, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pravesh Kumar visited the spot to conduct a preliminary enquiry. According to the report, police suspect a case of drug overdose.

There were no external injuries on her body and we have to wait for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death. We have detained her companion and he is being questioned.
An investigating official told The News Minute

The police are currently questioning Santeri at the Triplicane police station in Chennai. Police told The News Minute that both tourists were scheduled to travel to Delhi on 10 January.

The body will be brought for post mortem to the Royapettah mortuary. The police are yet to file a formal complaint.
