Five people were injured after a four-storey building, that was under construction, collapsed in Delhi's Azad Market on Friday, 9 September.

Fire officials said that they received a call regarding the incident at around 8:30 am on Friday. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot to conduct rescue operations.

Police officials said that five people have been rescued from under the debris and taken to the Hindu Rao hospital.

However, they added that rescue operations are still ongoing since 6-7 people are still trapped.

Visuals of people stuck in neighbouring houses, as the entrances to their residences were blocked by the debris, were aired on news channels.

Officials also said that prima facie, the cause of the collapse was that the structure was facing an overload. They also said that nobody was staying in the building.

According to a statement released by DCP (North Delhi) Sagar Singh Kalsi, a man named Ajay Kumar Jain is the owner of the building whereas the builder was identified as Mohammed Muzaffir.

He further added that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
