Debt-ridden Farmer Allegedly Kills Self in Kerala’s Wayanad

Financial burden had forced the man to take the extreme step, claimed relatives.

A 53-year-old farmer allegedly killed self in Kerala’s Wayanad by consuming poisonous substance on Friday, 24 May.

Citing police officials, a PTI report stated that the farmer identified as VD Dineshan, was rushed to local hospital on Friday night by his relatives where he died the next morning.

Police are probing that the farmer allegedly took life after mounting financial burden. Quoting relatives, officials said that Dineshan had a taken a loan of Rs 10 lakh from three banks and was facing recovery proceedings.

Though a definite estimate of farm suicides is not available, residents have told media that at least seven people killed self in Wayanad this year.

The Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency is now represented by Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who won the seat by over 4 lakh votes during the 2019 general elections.
