Who Will be Andhra's Next CM?

Andhra Pradesh held simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections on 11 April. The results in Andhra Pradesh could play a key role in deciding which party comes to power at the Centre, in case of a fractured verdict.

The exit polls threw up mixed results for Andhra Pradesh as some surveys predicted a victory for Naidu’s TDP while others predicted that Jagan’s YSRCP would bag most of the 25 Lok Sabha seats.

A BJP ally till March 2018, TDP quit the NDA alliance last year.

YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu are locked in a battle for the head of the state.

Will Telangana CM KCR Sweep the State?

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) is up against the Congress and BJP, who were routed in December 2018 Assembly polls.

KCR has repeatedly spoken and made efforts to build a non-Congress, non-BJP ‘federal front’.

While most exit polls predict TRS will win anywhere between 12 and 15 seats of the total 17 seats, the Congress and BJP are expected to get one seat each, and the AIMIM is expected to retain their hold on Hyderabad.

TRS ally AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi is the frontrunner, touted to win in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency. Another candidate to watch out for is KCR’s daughter and TRS MP Kavitha in Nizamabad.

Will Predictions for a Congress-led UDF Win Hold True in Kerala?

Kerala is seeing a battle between Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF). BJP is a marginal player in the state.

Six out of eight exit polls have predicted a definitive victory for UDF, while ruling LDF will see a drastic decline in its vote share, according to predictions.

The key contests in the state include Rahul Gandhi’s fight for a second seat in Wayanad, a constituency formed in 2008 where Congress has a strong hold. Gandhi faces CPI candidate PP Suneer.

Another crucial seat to look out for is Thiruvananthapuram, where Congress’ two-time MP Shashi Tharoor battles BJP’s Kummanam Rajasekharan.

Exit Polls Give DMK Alliance a Lead in Tamil Nadu

This is the first Tamil Nadu election in decades without the presence of stalwarts Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi for the AIADMK and DMK respectively.

Exit polls have given the DMK alliance a decisive lead. Congress is an alliance partner of DMK in the state, and BJP that of AIADMK. Both the national parties, though, have only a marginal presence in Tamil Nadu, known for its Dravidian politics.

Tamil Nadu has 39 constituencies, but elections in Vellore were cancelled over the allegations of money being exchanged for votes. Now, the state awaits results of 38 seats on 23 May.

In 2014, the AIADMK swept the polls on the back of Jayalalithaa’s popularity and won 37 of the 39 Lok Sabha seats, leading to disappointment for the DMK.

This time around, will DMK’s Stalin stand tall?

Thumping Victory for BJP in Karnataka?

Multiple exit polls predicted that the BJP will win a majority of the 28 seats in Karnataka in the Lok Sabha elections, while the Congress-JD(S) coalition is predicted to win very few. According to BJP leaders in the state, the exit polls reaffirmed the party’s belief that they will at least meet its expectation of winning 22 seats, reports The News Minute.

In 2014, the Congress had won 9 seats, while the BJP and JD(S) had bagged 17 and 2 seats respectively in the state.

The Congress in Karnataka has forged an alliance with the JD(S) ahead of the general elections this year. The Congress has chosen to contest from 20 constituencies, while the JD(S) has been offered eight segments. The two parties, considered arch rivals in Karnataka, had forged an alliance with the goal of defeating the BJP in the state. However, speculation of hostility between Congress and JD(S) is rife and rumours say the coalition may not last after results.
