A 10-year-old girl was repeatedly molested by her 50-year-old stepfather and his younger brother over the past four months. Both are absconding.

Though she was warned not to tell anybody about her ordeal, traumatised by the repeated molestation, she finally confided in a member of a Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) team that had gone to meet her mother. The commission then rescued the girl and got an FIR registered against both men.

In her complaint, the woman said her parents had arranged her second marriage as her first husband, a habitual drinker, used to beat her up frequently. The daughter is from the first marriage. The accused claimed to have seen the child, Prince Kumar, at the window of his house and decided to shoot him since he had seen their faces and could have identified them later. The men had gone to the gym to shoot the owner, with whom they had a dispute.

Kumar’s father, Sarvesh, recalled how the bullet made a hole through his son’s head. “All he did was to look out of the window to check the commotion outside. We suddenly saw him fall backwards and lay motionless. I wonder what the men must have thought to have shot a six-year-old fearing that he might report them to the police,” he said.
