A 35-year-old woman and her husband died after being stabbed by their neighbour, following a scuffle over a trivial issue in West Delhi’s Khayala on the evening of Wednesday, 16 January, reported CNN-News18.

The neighbour stabbed the couple and their son multiple times, while other neighbours witnessed the incident and recorded it, despite the victims’ calls for help.

According to the police, the woman died on the spot, while her husband and son sustained multiple injuries. The husband succumbed to his injuries after he was admitted to the hospital. The son, whose condition is critical, is still battling for his life, CNN-News18 reported.

The victims have been identified as Sunita, her 41-year-old husband Viru and their 20-year-old son Aakash, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj.

How the Attack Unfolded

The police received a call at around 7:30 pm on Wednesday about the fight which broke out between Sunita and her neighbour Mohammad Azad, when the woman was on her way back from the local market, The Hindu reported.

The accused got into an argument with Sunita and refused to back off even after the woman asked him to speak to her properly. Sunita’s son Aakash tried to talk to Azad, but was stabbed after an argument. The couple who then came to his rescue, were stabbed multiple times as well, police said, adding that the accused fled the scene immediately.

What Triggered the Scuffle

According to a senior police official, the accused was angry over a water bottle belonging to Sunita’s daughter, which had fallen from the terrace and hit him, four days ago.

The issue had been resolved by the neighbours. However, Azad interrupted Sunita while she was on her back from the market on Wednesday evening and argued over the same issue, reported The Hindu.

Accused on the Run

According to the neighbours, the accused was under the influence of alcohol and had come prepared with a knife in hand, with the intent of killing the family, reported CNN-News18.

The police said Azad is still absconding and that efforts are on to find him.
