Two foreign returnees have tested positive for COVID-19 in Kerala, taking total number of active cases to 17 in the state, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a press conference.

Eleven more COVID-19 fatalities reported in West Bengal, death toll rises to 99, reported PTI, quoting officials.

Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases in India neared the 60,000-mark on Saturday, 9 May. According to the Health Ministry data, there are a total of 59,662 cases in the country, including 39,834 active cases, 1,981 deaths, 17,846 patients who have been cured or discharged and one who has migrated. In the last 24 hours, 3,320 new cases and 95 deaths have been reported.

COVID-19: India’s Case Tally Nears 60,000; Death Toll at 1,981

The number of coronavirus cases in India neared the 60,000-mark on Saturday. According to the Health Ministry data, there are a total of 59,662 cases in the country, including 39,834 active cases, 1,981 deaths, 17,846 patients who have been cured or discharged and one who has migrated.

In the last 24 hours, 3,320 new cases and 95 deaths have been reported.

Bengal Govt Not Allowing Trains With Migrants: Amit Shah to Mamata

In a fresh flashpoint between the Centre and the West Bengal government, Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday, 9 May, wrote to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying that the union government is not getting the state government's support to help migrants reach home.

The home minister alleged that the state government is not allowing trains with migrants to reach the state.

"Migrants from West Bengal are also eager to reach home. The Central government is facilitating but we are not getting expected support from West Bengal... The state government is not allowing the trains to reach West Bengal. This is injustice with West Bengal migrant labourers. This will create further hardship for them," the letter reportedly stated.

57 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Rajasthan; Tally Rises to 3,636

As many as 57 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Rajasthan on Saturday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 3,636. The death toll stands at 103.

36 New COVID-19 Cases in Karnataka; Tally Rises to 789

Thirty-six new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Karnataka between 5 pm on Friday and 12 pm on Saturday, taking the tally in the state to 789, including 379 discharged patients and 30 deaths.

As many as 43 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the state to 1,930. Three deaths have also been reported in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 44, ANI reported.

COVID-19 Fatality Rate Around 3,3%, Recovery Rate 29.9%: Health Minister

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Saturday said that the COVID-19 fatality rate in India continues to be around 3.3 percent and the recovery rate has climbed to 29.9 percent, which, he said, were "very good indicators".

"We do not anticipate a very worst type of situation in our country like many other developed countries, but still we have prepared the whole country for the worst situation [sic]... The doubling rate for the last three days has been about 11 days. For the last seven days, it has been 9.9 days," he was quoted by ANI as saying.

13 More CISF Personnel Test Positive for COVID-19

Thirteen more Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of personnel in the force who have been infected to 48, ANI reported on Saturday.

Lockdown: TN Moves SC Against HC’s Order on Closing Liquor Shops

The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday moved the Supreme Court challenging the Madras High Court's order to close TASMAC/liquor vending outlets in the state during the lockdown, Bar & Bench reported.

On Friday, the Madras HC had ordered the closure of all state-run TASMAC liquor shops in Tamil Nadu and permitted only online sale of liquor.
