Maharashtra on Friday, 26 June, reported its biggest one-day spike of 5,024 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the state to 1,52,765. As many as 175 fatalities were also reported, taking the death toll to 7,106. Out of these, 91 deaths took place in the last 48 hours and 84 are from the previous period, the state health department said.

Meanwhile, 3,460 new cases were recorded in Delhi on Friday, taking the total number of cases in the national capital to 77,240.

According to the consolidated nationwide data released by the Union Health Ministry on Friday morning, the number of coronavirus cases in India stood above 4.9 lakh, with the death toll at 15,301.

Mexico Surpasses 2,00,000 Cases, 25K Deaths

Mexico has surpassed 25,000 COVID-19 deaths and 2,00,000 cases, news agency AFP reported.

Night Curfew Timings Changed in UP Districts

Night curfew hours in Noida, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Hapur and Muzaffarnagar have been revised. The curfew will now be in place from 8 pm-6 am.

Cases in India Rise to 4,90,401, Death Toll at 15,301

The total number or COVID-19 cases in India rose to 4,90,401 on Friday, 26 June with the death toll rising to 15,301.

The total active cases in the country are 1,89,463 with 2,85,637 patients cured/migrated/discharged.

Drive-Through COVID-19 Testing Facilities Increased in Delhi

The 20-minute drive through COVID-19 testing facilities have been increased in Delhi, ANI reported. Private labs like Dr Dangs Lab have scaled-up testing to counter the surge in COVID-19 cases.

“We've now established our third drive through COVID-19 testing facility near Siri Fort auditorium,the other two facilities are at Saket and Punjabi Bagh. Anyone with mild or moderate symptoms can get their test done at this drive-through facility,” Dr Arjun Dang, CEO, Dr Dangs Lab told ANI.

MHA Reviews Implementation of COVID-19 Measures

On 25 June, Union Home Secretary reviewed implementation of various decisions on COVID-19 in Delhi which were taken on 21 June in a meeting chaired by HM Amit Shah, the Home Ministry said in a statement. Member Niti Aayog, Director AIIMS, DG ICMR along with Delhi’s Chief Secretary and Health Secretary attended the meeting, the MHA said.

“It was also informed in the meeting that the re-drawing of containment zones including all clusters of COVID-19 outbreak in Delhi would be completed by 26 June as per the timeline fixed by HM Amit Shah. Completion of door to door health survey would also be done by 30 June,” the MHA said.

“HM Amit Shah also approved the combined use of Aarogya Setu and Itihaas apps as strong predictive tools for future detection of COVID outbreaks in population clusters. Training on combined use of apps was imparted by NCDC trainers to the district teams of the Delhi Govt yesterday,” it added.

Central Health Team Visits Ahmedabad

A Central Health Team led by Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health visited Ghatlodia area of Ahmedabad to review COVID-19 situation. The team will also interact with State officials and coordinate with them to strengthen ongoing efforts for management of COVID-19.

COVID-19 Patient Kills Self in Bengaluru Hospital

A 60-yr-old COVID-19 patient hung herself in the restroom of KC General Hospital on Thursday night. She was admitted to the hospital on 18th June, ANI reported quoting Bengaluru Police.

91 New Cases in Rajasthan

One death and 91 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Rajasthan till 10.30 am today, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 16,387, ANI reported quoting the Rajasthan Health Department.

123 New Cases in Bihar

At least 123 new COVID-19 cases reported in Bihar today, taking the total number of cases in the state to 8,611, ANI reported.

Deaths in LNJP Gone Down since Plasma Therapy Introduced: Kejriwal

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that deaths in LNJP hospital have gone down since plasma therapy has been introduced

“We have permission to conduct plasma therapy at LNJP and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality hospitals. Since the start of plasma therapy at LNJP hospital, the number of deaths has reduced to less than half as compared to earlier,” he said, as quoted by ANI.

“It may be difficult to save very serious patients using plasma therapy, but it can help moderate patients by not letting their condition worsen. This is what we have found till now:,” he added.

“There are some patients whose oxygen level became very low but they showed no symptoms, it dropped suddenly and they died suddenly. So we have provided oxymeter to asymptomatic patients or those with mild symptoms who are under home isolation,” Kejriwal said.

Complete Lockdown for 14 Days in Kamrup District of Assam

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a complete lockdown of 14 days in Kamrup Metropolitan district, which includes Guwahati.

“Complete lockdown will be imposed in the entire Kamrup Metropolitan district from the midnight of 28 June for the next 14 days, due to rise in COVID-19 cases. Medical stores to remain open during the lockdown,” he said, as quoted by ANI.

A 12-hour night curfew will also be in force in Assam from Friday, with a complete lockdown in towns on weekends from Saturday, Sarma said.

“Weekend lockdown on Saturdays and Sundays to be enforced in urban areas in Assam. Areas falling under the jurisdiction of town committees and municipalities will come under the ambit of the weekend lockdown and will continue until further notice,” he added.

West Bengal Relaxes Night Curfew Hours

The West Bengal government has relaxed the night curfew hours, with restrictions being from 10 pm to 5 am during the extended lockdown till 31 July, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday, reported PTI.

Banerjee also said the government wants metro rail services in Kolkata to resume from 1 July.

"We are discussing with the metro authorities about resuming the metro services from 1 July, allowing passengers only up to the seating capacity," she said.

Shopping Malls to Open in Gurugram Next Week, Religious Places to Remain Shut: Reports

Shopping malls will be opened in Gurugram from next week following the SOPs issued by the central government, the city's municipal commissioner said on Friday. However, places of worship will continue to remain shut, reports said.

“Malls will reopen from next week following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) issued by the central government. Malls and shops which will not follow the SOPs will be shut down. No orders received to open religious places,” the commissioner of the Gurugram Municipal Corporation was quoted by ANI as saying.

Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain has tested negative for COVID-19 and will be discharged from the hospital on Friday, ANI reported.

International Flights to Remain Suspended Till 15 July: DGCA

Scheduled international commercial passenger flight services to and from India will remain suspended till 15 July, said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Friday.

This restriction, however, will not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA.

Moreover, international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case-to-case base, the circular signed by Deputy Director General Sunil Kumar said.
