Addressing a gathering of 175 people in Ayodhya after performing ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ for the Ram Temple, PM Narendra Modi said that despite efforts to eradicate Lord Ram’s existence, he still lives in our hearts and is the basis of our culture.

“The construction of the Ram Temple is an instrument to unite the country… Social harmony was the core principle of Lord Ram’s governance,” he was quoted by PTI as saying.

PM Modi was accompanied by UP CM Yogi Adityanath, UP Governor Anandiben Patel and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on the stage for the grand event, which comes months after the Supreme Court’s verdict in the 2.77 acre land dispute case.

Addressing a gathering of 175 people in Ayodhya after performing ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ for the Ram Temple, PM Modi said its construction will lift the entire region’s economy, as he paid respect to the people who made sacrifices for the temple.

“A grand temple will now be built for our ‘Ram Lalla’ who had been staying in a tent... India is creating a golden chapter in Ayodhya, the wait of centuries ends today,” he was quoted as saying.

“Ram Mandir will become the modern symbol of our traditions. It’ll become a symbol of our devotion, our national sentiment. This temple will also symbolise the power of collective resolution of crores of people. It will keep inspiring the future generations.”

Earlier, Bharti had said that she would be staying away from foundation-laying ceremony for the temple as a precaution against coronavirus. She had said that she would be in Ayodhya, but would visit the site and do the 'darshan' of 'Ram Lalla' only after PM Modi and others in the group have left.

PM Modi Leaves for Ayodhya; Here's What the Schedule Looks Like

PM Narendra Modi has left for Ayodhya to take part in the foundation-laying ceremony for the Ram Temple. Here’s how the schedule looks like:

  • The PM will reach the Lucknow airport at 10:35 am, after which he’ll proceed to Ayodhya.
  • After landing at Ayodhya, he will visit the Hanuman Garhi temple between 11:30 am and 12 pm.
  • Between 12 and 12:30 pm, he will be at the makeshift Ram Lalla temple.
