Yakub Memon Moves SC Against Death Sentence
Yakub Memon has moved the SC against his death sentence again after his curative petition was rejected.

Yakub Abdul Razak Memon, the sole death row convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, today moved the Supreme Court seeking a stay of execution of his death sentence scheduled for July 30.
On July 21, a three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu had rejected Yakub’s curative petition, saying the grounds raised by him do not fall within the principles laid down by the apex court in 2002.
Yakub was sentenced to death by TADA court in 2007 for his part in the 1993 blasts in Mumbai.
Memon, in his petition, said that all legal remedies have not been exhausted and that he has also approached the Maharastra Governor with a plea for mercy.
He had filed the mercy plea before the Governor immediately after his curative petition was dismissed by the apex court on Tuesday.
Looming Possibilities
His cousin brother, Usman Memon, met him in the Nagpur Central Jail a day before the Supreme Court dismissed his curative petition.
His wife and daughter, who were expected to meet him with his cousin, finally met him today.
Yakub’s wife Rahin Memon (42) and daughter Zubeda (21), accompanied by relatives Iqbal Memon and others, reached the jail this morning from Mumbai by train and met him around 9 am, sources said.
According to reports, the prison along with the Maharashtra Government is preparing for his execution.
But activists against capital punishment have not lost hope and believe that he may still have options.
