On Monday night, 27 May, the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) announced the results of the re-evaluation of answer papers of over 3.82 lakh students who had failed their exams, which were held earlier this year, reported IANS.

Last month, 23 students had killed themselves over the results, according to IANS. Authorities found no difference in their marks, post re-evaluation.

Of the 9.43 lakh students who appeared in the exams, 5.60 lakh had cleared it. Following the results, several errors had come to light, triggering a public outcry. After several students killed themselves, the state opposition took to the streets in protest, and the matter reached the High Court. The chief minister then announced that the answer scripts of those who had failed would be re-evaluated.

The intermediate examinations in Telangana are equivalent to the CBSE 11th (first year) and 12th board (second year) exams.

According TSBIE secretary M Ashok, the second-level checking for 19,788 answer scripts was still underway. “All efforts are being made to complete second level testing, scanning and uploading by tonight or tomorrow,” he said.
