On the first Monday of May every year since 1948, the world witnesses the MET Gala. The annual fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute has a distinct theme every year, which also dictates the dress code for the ball.

Attendees ranging from actors, models, musicians and humanitarians are ideally supposed to follow and dress according to the theme set by the MET committee.

And as the tradition goes, this year’s theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and Catholic Imagination”, and many celebrities followed it with the outmost obedience, but in the process, they might have turned themselves into meme fodder.

Although MET Gala invitees are no strangers to being turned into memes for their choice of dress, this year was especially more rampant, thanks to the rather outlandish theme.
