The West Bengal Assembly passed a resolution on Monday to drop the ‘West’ from the state’s name.

Bengal will now be called ‘Bangla’ in Bengali, ‘Bengal’ in English and ‘Bangal’ in Hindi.

Not ‘Bongo’ Anymore

The earlier proposed name – Bongo – that caused a spate of humorous social media reactions has been dropped, according to ANI.

‘But Bongo is a Percussion Instrument’

The West Bengal cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, had decided earlier this month that West Bengal be renamed to Bongo.

What followed on Twitter was what happens to kids with funny names in schools – they get ragged!

Poor West Bengal was trolled far and wide, but then can one really deny how really, actually, genuinely odd Bongo sounds?

This is a valid question...

Twitter warriors, you make rest in peace, until the next monumental decision.
