Social media effectively came to the rescue of a Delhi girl who was on the verge of committing suicide. In a post on Snapchat, the 20-year-old spoke about her intention of committing suicide because she was pregnant and was worried about her family’s ‘reputation’.

The girl posted this message on The Artidote’s Snapchat account, and the community’s supportive responses actually helped prevent a tragedy.

The loving and supportive messages were enough to make a positive impact on the young girl. She replied back to The Artidote to thank the people who made these incredible gestures, thanking them for “saving me”.

The next day, she had good news.

The Artidote is a community founded by Jovanny Varela-Ferreyra, who wanted to promote the art of empathy and story-telling amongst people. The community is now almost a million-people-strong, and had been influential in preventing a suicide once before as well.
