Not too long ago, a video of an employee of Bank of Maharashtra in Pune went viral. The video shows a female cashier counting the notes and signing the receipt for a deposit. But the whole procedure, caught on camera, was unnaturally slow.
The video, initially published by a Balaraju Somisetty on 23 October, soon became viral as that of the ‘fastest cashier in the world,’ and the woman in the video became the butt of jokes.
But in light of new information, the video has been taken down by Facebook.
A post put up by Kundan Srivastava, a social activist, describes how the woman in the video, identified as Premlata Shinde, was actually recovering from a stroke.
Social media of course is a place for viral content and rampant shares on the click of a single button. But amidst WhatsApp forwards and Facebook videos, it would be a pity if we lose the ability to empathise.
