You know we have a serious situation of ‘censorship overload’ when a classic Hindi song like Abhi na Jao Chhod Kar is censored.

While this melodious duet by Asha Bhonsle and Mohammad Rafi from the movie Hum Dono (1961) sings of a man pining to keep his beloved longer with him, Saavn’s censorship algorithm mixed the word up with a similar sounding Hindi word for fu*k.

The result was simply hilarious.

And just when you thought that this was a simple goof-up on the part of their algorithm reading the word wrong, this happened:

Yes, the music streaming app even beeped out the word ‘Chhod’, which means ‘to leave’ in Hindi! It wasn’t just Asha Ji’s number, but other songs with the same word that suffered a similar beeping out.

Losing our sh*it indeed.

They are Equally Clueless

So is it Alexa that is doing the filtering?

This brings us to the question, will you intentionally buy a product that censors out content on your device to make it more sanskari? Let us know in the comments!
