Everybody wants to know if, and how, peacocks have sex!

Yes, actually! Here’s a Google Search screenshot of India’s interest in the term ‘Peacock Sex’ in the past 7 days.

All of it is because of a Rajasthan HC Judge, Mahesh Sharma, who postulated that peacocks stay celibate. Instead, he says, the peahen gets pregnant ‘by drinking the tears of the peacock’.

Well, Justice Sharma might have taken the ‘high’ in the ‘High Court’ a bit too seriously. For him, and a lot of us inquisitive souls, here’s some free ka gyaan: Peacocks do have sex. Bright, colourful, shimmery sex. Too much information, I know.

Now that we have established that peacocks are regular, functioning creatures, and NOT tear-jerkers, here’s a video of two allegedly consenting peacocks indulging in a romantic moment. ‘Somewhat graphic’ content warning.

I wish my tears had some worth too.

Guys, let’s be frank, peacock is our national bird. Let’s stop invading its privacy and discussing its sexuality so publically. At a time when we have restricted a section of our population to talk about their sexuality. *Cough* 377 *Cough* Homosexuality *Cough*

And Justice Sharma sabse badi baat, even if the peacock is celibate, what’s their to celebrate?
