Who could’ve imagined the Oscars would goof-up this bad? A lot was said and done at the 89th Academy Awards, but the Best Picture Award sequence stole the show. Moonlight bagged the coveted award, but not before the organisers erroneously announced that La La Land had won the golden man instead.

Before we take you through the furore it caused on Twitter, here’s a video on what actually happened!

The moment stunned everyone who was following the glitzy Awards ceremony. Jaws dropped around the world and news outlets scrambled to put out corrections.

Twitter, meanwhile, had a meltdown.

Considering how political this edition of the Oscars was, there was the inevitable barrage of jokes about the US elections.

Some users were quick to remember Steve Harvey’s infamous mix-up at the Miss Universe 2015 pageant.

The mix-up also amused many.

There were the few who sympathised with the La La Land team.

Others saw poetic justice in the mixup.
