Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif found himself at the centre of a social media controversy after uploading pictures of him doing 'Surya Namaskar'.

Kaif posted four pictures of his workout which included 'Surya Namaskar' – a yoga posture. The photographs invited snide remarks from Twitter trolls with some even accusing him of violating his religious beliefs. Kaif had tweeted the pictures last Friday:

Kaif Had Defended Mohammed Shami Just Days Ago

The former India batsman – who has played 13 Tests and 125 ODIs – however, hit back at the social media vitriol commendably, declaring that physical exercise had absolutely nothing to do with religion. He tweeted that he could not understand what “doing any exercise, surya namaskar or gym has to do with religion”.

Incidentally, Kaif – who had played first-class cricket for Chattisgarh this season – had earlier in the week stood behind speedster Mohammed Shami who was attacked by social media trolls too. The latter had found it appropriate to pass judgement on Shami’s wife’s choice of clothing.
