Prime Minister Narendra Modi literally swears by social media to reach out to his mitron, bhaiyo and behno. So much so that he has been ranked at number 3 on the video-sharing platform YouTube as per a study conducted this month – according to a report in The Hindu.

The study titled “World Leaders on YouTube” conducted by Burson-Marsteller, a PR and communications firm puts the White House right on top, followed by US President Barack Obama. While The White House has close to 700,000 subscribers on YouTube, Obama has 530,000 subscribers and Modi with 300,000 subscribers stands at the third position.

The study made an interesting point: Governments use YouTube not as an interactive tool but a one-way medium of communication – basically for archival purpose. The comments, likes or any sort of reaction have been disabled.

Modi has accounts in almost all the popular social media – Facebook, Twitter and even China’s Weibo – and has a handsome number of followers in all. He also has an app by his name through which he gives out all the latest updates.
